The deceased had dropped his wife off at one of his relatives’ homes that fateful day about 1400 hours, vowing to pick her up later in the evening, according to CSC. Adamu Shehu, a spokeswoman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state who confirmed the occurrence.

Biden Mistakenly Calls Sunak “Mr President ” At White House Meeting

Joe Biden got confused over British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s title when the pair met in the White House, welcoming him as “Mr President.”

The U.S. President swiftly corrected himself, joking that he had “promoted” Sunak.

The 80-year-old, seated across from Sunak for the bilateral meeting, said: “Well, Mr President – Mr President, I just promoted you. Mr Prime Minister, it’s great to have you back.”

Sunak, who appeared to laugh off the error, has not been to the White House before as prime minister, only taking office last October.

Biden told him: “In the past few months, we have met each other in San Diego and then we met in Belfast and we met in Hiroshima.

“And now we’re here we’re going to solve all the problems of the world in the next 20 minutes.”

This is not the first time the U.S. president has appeared to fumble his words recently.

In April, during his visit to the Republic of Ireland, Biden appeared to confuse the name of the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team with the Black and Tans, a controversial War of Independence-era police force in Ireland.

And while he heaped praise on the strength of the UK-U.S. relationship on Thursday, saying it was in “really good shape”, he has not always been so diplomatic.

In May, he claimed that he visited the Island of Ireland to ensure the “Brits didn’t screw around” amid ongoing concern over the peace process and the impact of Brexit.

Tinubu to address Nigerians on June 12 as part of Democracy Day celebration.

On June 12, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to give a speech to Nigerians in honor of this year’s Democracy Day.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Senator George Akume, the speech, which will be the first since his inaugural address on May 29, would be broadcast live on all major stations and streamed on various social media platforms.

He reminded that Nigeria’s Democracy Day has been revised to be observed annually from May 29 to June 12 at a news conference on Friday in Abuja where he laid out the schedule of festivities.

He claims that the event is meant to honor the heroes who led the fight and made extraordinary sacrifices to establish democratic governance in Nigeria from 1999 to the present.

He said; “However, May 29 remains the date or anniversary of handing over or taking over of power, and this happens every four years according to the Nigerian Constitution.

“To commemorate this year’s anniversary, it is expedient for citizens and foreigners alike to take stock of how the nation has fared so far and assess the dividends that Democracy has ensued as well as areas where we need to make improvements. It is in light of this that the theme of this year’s Democracy celebration is “Hope Reassured”.

“It is pertinent to state that having had an elaborate Presidential inauguration this year, activities to mark the 2023 June 12, Democracy Day will be low key.

“Let me also assure everyone that adequate arrangements have been made for the safety and security of all people throughout the celebration period and beyond”.

Enugu’s government meets with Tinubu to discuss Kanu, reiterates the prohibition on sit-at-home.

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been held in custody since 2021 after being detained again in Kenya, and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has started negotiations with President Bola Tinubu to secure his release.

The release of Kanu will be consistent with the President’s plan for national healing, as he pledged on May 29, Mbah told State House Correspondents on Thursday after a private meeting with Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

Kanu was detained in Kenya exactly two years ago and extradited to Nigeria, where he was charged with seven terrorism-related offenses.

Mbah claimed that while at the villa, he talked about the prospect of releasing the secessionist activist who has just received a number of favorable court rulings on his prosecution.

The release of Kanu, according to the new governor, would be Tinubu’s gesture of goodwill toward the region of the South-East where the IPOB leader is from.

“We also, of course, talked about the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“You know that the South-East has made a collective demand to have Nnamdi Kanu released, and we basically identified with that.

“Mr President has, in his inaugural address, promised the people that he’s going to engender national healing and he’s going to serve with compassion. So, we’ve basically informed him that this would serve as a pointer to his administration’s extension of hands of fellowship,” Mbah said.

The governor restated his ban on Monday sit-at-home in Enugu to drive private sector investments.

“We also had that conversation with Mr President. We have made a very strong announcement. We’ve banned sit-at-home on Mondays in Enugu.

“We also had that conversation with Mr President. We have made a very strong announcement. We’ve banned sit-at-home on Mondays in Enugu.

“And obviously, what that means is that we will, of course, need to, you know, heighten our security, tackle the challenges that would flow from that, and, you know, essentially that’s what I have come to do,” he emphasised.

He also disclosed that he called for the Federal Government’s assistance to explore the abundant and untapped mineral resources in Enugu State for the benefit of the people.

“We’ve taken a bold view of what the new group could achieve in the next four years, in terms of growing our economy from the current levels to $30bn.

“We have a number of dormant assets in Enugu, which we believe partnering with the Federal Government, we’re able to transform them into productive assets,” the governor said.

“No reversal on demolishing unlawful structures,” according to the government of Kano

Comr. Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the deputy governor of Kano State, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to carrying out the continuing destruction of unlawful constructions, which was first started by the previous administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.

The Deputy Governor stressed the significance of supporting the rule of law and reestablishing order in urban areas while speaking during a meeting with members of the Association of Progressive Tarauni LGA at the Government House on Thursday night.

Abdussalam emphasized the importance of tearing down these buildings in order to promote sustainable urban development and safeguard the needs of the general population. He raised worry about how unregulated construction might affect public safety, drainage, and infrastructure.

“Imagine how public assets were sold by the previous administration for personal gain, without considering the consequences on the community. The division and sale of lands within the historic Massalacin Waje at Fagge LGA and portions of the Eid prayer ground, both of which have significant cultural and religious significance” the deputy governor stated.

“Why were people who opposed the demolitions silent, particularly religious leaders, when the former governor was selling public assets to his family and close associates? He added.

Along with his disappointment over the selling of graveyard land for the development of stores, he emphasized the administration’s efforts to make such sites better.

The Deputy Governor spoke about the Hajj Camp and how, despite it being a place for pilgrims to exercise, its facilities were split up and sold. He did point out that the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has taken action to rebuild the camp and make sure that basic amenities are offered.

The late Audu Bako originally built the Daula Hotel to teach students about tourism and event organization. The Deputy Governor also discussed its demolition. He lamented the fact that the property had been destroyed and that the former governor had supposedly sold it to his relatives.

The New Kano Government House in Kwankwasiyya City, Triumph’s machinery, the area around Yusuf Maitama Sule University and Dansoshiya Forest, as well as sizable farmlands spread over multiple LGAs, are among the reportedly sold public assets by the former administration.

The administration will manage the matter fairly and sensitively, the Deputy Governor reassured those who might be impacted and interest groups. He highlighted that in order to ascertain the legitimacy of structures prior to their demolition, a thorough inspection and verification process had been devised.

Abdussalam also urged everyone to support the administration and follow the rules and regulations established by the appropriate authorities.

Malam Nura Dan’jani Hadeja, the chairman of the Association of Progressive Tarauni LGA, expressed support for the present administration’s attempts to destroy unlawful structures built and sold by the previous administration during the meeting. The visit was made as a sign of support for the Deputy Governor following their recent triumph.
