Teenager charged to court for attempt SUV theft

Lekan Wasiu, a teenager, was charged for attempted stealing on Friday and was given a bail of N500,000 by an Ogudu Magistrates Court in Lagos.

Wasiu, a 19-year-old who attempted to steal a GAC SUV, was hauled before the court. However, the accused, a mechanic who lives in the Bolar of Ajah region, entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

The case has been postponed until June 23 for mention by magistrate M.O. Tanimola.

The defendant attempted to steal a GAC SUV with the registration number GGE, 604 GZ, valued at N14 million, on May 1 at Aderemi Akeju Street, PowerLine, Ifako, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Insp. Donjour Perezi.

“One Franklin Ngaba reported that he went for a meeting and parked his SUV car on Aderemi Akeju Street, Ifako, Lagos, when his host, Tajudeen Gafari, came to ask who owned said vehicle.

“Tajudeen said the defendant had opened the car and was about to drive it away when he was caught in the act,” Perezi said.

According to him, the crime violated the 2015 Lagos State Criminal Law’s Section 406 (2).
