The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff was attacked on Saturday, according to the Gombe State police. They were camped out at the Tudunwada Primary School in the city of Gombe.

In an interview with the Newsmen in Gombe on Saturday, Mr. Oqua Etim, the police chief there, confirmed the attack.

“Only your votes will count, prayer points will not”, says INEC

In today’s general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has asked Nigerians to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice rather than staying at home and praying.

This was said by Ms. Agnes Akpe, the INEC’s Federal Capital Territory Head of Voter Education and Publicity Department, when she announced that the INEC was prepared to hold elections there.

According to Akpe, the distribution of sensitive items started on February 23 and ended on February 24 with the Abuja Municipal Area Council receiving the final batch.

The papers, according to her, were delivered to the six area councils so that interested parties, including the media, political parties, and other agents, could see how they were distributed.

She said, “Your prayer points will not count, it is your vote that will count.

“So, we brought the materials for the six area councils here. The reason for bringing them here was that the media could be a witness and the political parties, IPAC and other agents.

“Aside from that, we also needed to add the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System that was with us because we had to configure them for each of the polling units.

“When they brought the ballot papers, we added the BVAS for each of the area councils and sent them under heavy security.

“So, we are pretty much ready. ”
