Afenifere sends messages to President-elect, Tinubu

The apex Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has urged the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, not to disappoint Nigerians but to hit the ground running and live up to his words.

The leader of Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, has also congratulated the President-elect and advised Tinubu to avoid making mistakes by his predecessors by ensuring that every ethnic group is united in his administration.

In a congratulatory message signed by Afenifere’s Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, the group said a lot is expected from the incoming administration.

“The incoming administration must hit the ground running with sustainable welfarist programmes, ousting terrorism and banditry, and putting an end to nepotism with round pegs in round holes,” Afenifere said in the statement.

“The administration must bring down the hyperinflation in the country, make sure fuels are available at very low prices, and artificial bottlenecks in the financial sector resulting in cash crunch are removed.

“It must create an atmosphere for all Nigerians to realise their potentials wherever they are and without infringing on the rights of fellow Nigerians, especially natives of a given area as is happening in some parts of the country presently.

“It is hoped that the Bola Tinubu government will not disappoint Nigerians. It will govern in a manner that will make citizens speak with pride at being a Nigerian, as he promised in his acceptance speech.

“We are confident that Tinubu can accomplish these as he promised.

“We are hopeful that he will be able to harness the requisite political and sundry other wills to give us a truly federal Nigeria where people are truly in control of their affairs.”

Chrisland expresses deepest regret following Whitney’s autopsy report, debunks claims of exhuming deceased body.

The Management of Chrisland School has finally apologised for its silence over the death of Whitney Adeniran, who died from asphyxia and electrocution.

Also, the school administration denied the rumor that Chrisland School will exhume the body of a deceased pupil.

In a statement released on Sunday, the school administration said it was aware of the developments surrounding the autopsy report on the tragic death of Whitney Adeniran, one of its students. It also apologized sincerely to the school and the media for its initial silence due to shock and moral propriety.

The statement read in full, We are deeply saddened and sorry about Whitney’s death. We are remorseful and sorry to Whitney’s parents. We are sorry to our parents and the entire community that hosts our school. We are also very sorry to the nation at large. It was a huge loss to the school.

“We express equal measure of apology to the Nigeria Media, another critical stakeholder, in case we have sent unbearably quiet signals. We have been quiet because this was death so shocking, we opted more for introspection and moral rectitude rather than strutting around the Media space to seize narratives.

“Moreso, we considered it imperative to allow the parents and indeed the entire Adeniran family the honour of their privacy as we all mourn this unfortunate loss. Whitney Adeniran was a bright and lovely student. She was popular and friendly. Her memory lives with us.

“We hereby vehemently refute the claim making the rounds that Chrisland School intends to exhume Whitney’s body. We have no such plan and assure the public that we are also parents in mourning and will not do or subscribe to anything that paints such insensitive optics that prevents our dear daughter from resting.

“We assure you all that no such thing will happen. Rather than do this, plans are underway to immortalize Whitney’s name so she can remain indelible in our consciousness. This is without prejudice to the ongoing Corona inquest but it is a honour we owe her.”

It continued, “Without influencing the course of the investigation, the school wishes to state that the management understands and appreciates the outpouring of emotions from the regrettable incident.” It also said that it had adopted the precaution of quiet sobriety and had refrained from responding to every issue on social media because it believed Whitney’s memory would be best served by moral rectitude and a sober introspection.

“Responding to every sensation or misinformation peddled, therefore, does not serve this purpose and we, therefore, continue to uphold restraint. Unfortunately this quiet is coming with regrettable, misconstrued conclusions.

“Nonetheless, Chrisland Schools will continue to cooperate with the authorities throughout the duration of the investigations, and also offer the parents every necessary support in this grieving period.

As an organisation, Chrisland School expresses its total trust in the investigation process, which was why the School authority insisted on the Corona Inquest in the first place, to help clear every doubt against insinuations of a cover-up and to provide us with learning curves to guard against future occurrences, not only to Chrisland students but also other young ones out there that may be recreating in public facilities.

“Notwithstanding the above, we shall continue to cooperate and submit to due diligence till the Corona inquest runs its full course which would accord our beloved Whitney, her family and indeed ourselves, a closure. We owe Whitney this dignity and our sincere and unreserved demonstration of respect.

“In the meantime, we have continued to engage the Adenirans. We are not relenting, because she is our daughter too and we shall always be there with the family to navigate this dark period. To all those who have stood truly by us and the Adenirans at this trying moment, we convey our sincere gratitude,” the school management added.

The school management also refuted the claim making the rounds that Chrisland School intends to exhume the body of its la

Biden underwent surgery to remove a malignant skin tumor in February- US President’s Doctor

President of the United States Joe Biden, 80, successfully underwent removal of a cancerous skin lesion from his chest in February, according to his physician.

According to a report made public by the White House, Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, identified the lesion as a basal cell carcinoma, which “does not tend to’spread’ or metastasis,” adding that “no further treatment is required.”

The president was deemed “fit for duty” after the lesion was removed during Biden’s annual physical on February 16.

O’Connor said in the Friday report, “The site of the biopsy has healed nicely and the president will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive healthcare.”

He said that compared to “more dangerous skin malignancies like melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma,” basal cell carcinoma was typically more benign.

“President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those of as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” O’Connor, said in February following Biden’s medical examination.

The examination was the last one before Biden, the oldest US president ever, is likely to announce that he is seeking for reelection in 2024.

Biden finished a series of exams he started at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre, a complex in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., with a presidential facility, at the February appointment.

When writing about the president at the time, O’Connor noted that he had spent “a good deal of time in the sun in his childhood” and that he had already received routine treatment for the eradication of localized, non-melanoma skin malignancies.

7 states drop their lawsuit attempting to overturn Tinubu’s victory.

The Supreme Court case filed by seven federated states to overturn Bola Tinubu’s election victory and become the next president of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been dropped.

The states of Adamawa State, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Taraba, and Sokoto filed a notice of discontinuance of the matter on Friday through a team of attorneys led by Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN.

The plaintiffs had petitioned the supreme court to overturn the results of the presidential and national assembly elections that were held on February 25. They claimed that INEC had violated the Election Act of 2022.

“A declaration that the failure of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the INEC, to electronically transmit or transfer Polling Unit Results in Form EC8A using BVAS by uploading Scanned Copy of the said Unit Result to the Independent National Electoral Commission Result Viewing Portal (IReV) after the counting and announcement of the Polling Units results on 25th of February, 2023 in collusion, violates the provision of Sections 25; 47(2); 60 (1), (2), (4) & (5); 62; 64(4)(a) & (b); 70; and 148 of the Electoral Act, 2022, governing the 2023 nationwide general elections, particularly paragraphs 38 of the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, 2022; and paragraphs 2.8.4; 2.9.0; and 2.9.1 of the INEC Manual for Election Officials, 2023, for the conduct of the Presidential Election.

“A declaration that the fundamentally flawed electoral process through the non-uploading of the results of each of the 176,974 Polling Units nationwide, in respect of the Presidential Election and National Assembly Elections held on Saturday, 25th February 2023 were not in accordance with the provisions of Sections 25; 47(2); 60 (1), (2), (4) & (5); 62; 64(4)(a) & (b); 70; and 148 of the Electoral Act, 2022, governing the 2023 nationwide general elections, particularly paragraphs 38 of the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, 2022; and paragraphs 2.8.4; 2.9.0; and 2.9.1 of the INEC Manual for Election Officials, 2023, for the conduct of the Presidential Election.
