Third victory over Ghana for Nigeria in the Women cricket tournament.
At the Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s Invitational currently taking place in Lagos, Nigeria defeated Ghana in their third match by a score of 62 runs.
The Ghanaian team won the toss and decided to field in the game that was played at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval on Friday.
Salome Sunday 27(18) and Agatha Obulor 25(34), two reliable scorers for Nigeria, helped keep the scoreboard moving after a sluggish start to the game.
In the end, the hosts scored 120 runs in 20 overs while losing only four wickets.
Rasidatu Salia (20/29) and Komalpreet Grewal (11/23) tried their best to help Ghana attain the mark in the second innings, but their efforts fell short.
In order to defeat the Ghanaian team, Nigerian bowlers Racheal Samson (4/18) and Peculiar Agboya (2/18) restricted their West African adversaries to 58 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Rhyda Ofori, the captain of the Ghanaian team, said many lessons had already been learned from the competition after the game.
“We have learnt some lessons here and we will take it home and improve on our game. Hopefully, we will come back better and stronger,” Ofori said.
On her part, Blessing Etim, Captain of the Nigerian team, lauded her team’s efforts, adding however that they needed to do more.
“The win means a lot to us because we have put up a great effort and teamwork to ensure that we go unbeaten throughout this tournament.
“Although we need to come through with our batting and bring our ‘A’ game as well as we face Rwanda on Saturday,” Etim added.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Ghana has been eliminated from the competition after losing all of its games to Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
The last group game will be played on Saturday between host Nigeria and Rwanda and Sierra Leone and Cameroon.
The competition, which got going on Monday, is supposed to wrap up on Sunday.
