Andy Murray’s Withdrawal from the Men Singles Tournament, Set the Platform for a New Singles Olympic Champion

The ongoing Olympic tournament is set to have a new men’s singles gold medalist reigning champion Andy Murray withdrew from his first-round match some hours before the first game began.

This withdrawal may have been as a result of tight muscle he had been managing to play with for some time; although that did not stop him from registering a winning start with his partner Joe Salisbury in their first doubles game in Tokyo.

Andy Murray was quoted saying that “I am really disappointed at having to withdraw but the medical staff have advised me against playing in both events; I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the singles and focus on playing doubles with Joe.’
