According to a recent report, the State Security Service detained a Federal University of Dutse student for a five-month-old tweet that was deemed derogatory of Nigerian First Lady Aisha Buhari.
Aminu Adamu Muhammed, a final-year Environmental Management and Toxicology student at FUD in Jigawa State, reportedly tweeted in June that Mrs. Buhari had suddenly gained a lot of weight after participating in the nation’s meager resource theft.
In a tweet from June 8, 2022, Mr. Muhammed criticized Ms. Buhari, the first lady, in Hausa: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi”, which is translated as “the mother has gotten fatter by eating masses’ money.”
According to the story, Mr. Muhammad’s pals have admitted on social media that he posted the message because he was upset about the country’s protracted university strike at the time. The ASUU strike, which started on February 14, 2022, ended on October 14 of last year.
A family source claims that the 23-year-old student was apprehended by police on the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa campus on November 8. After being taken into custody at around midday, the officers allegedly beat the man severely.
He was abruptly sent to Abuja and given a brief window of time to speak with his father Adamu Shalele Azare about where he was, which the family mistook for a police station. Later, the State Security Service was revealed to be responsible for Mr. Muhammad’s arrest, according to Peoples Gazette.
