On Saturday, protesters blocked some of the main thoroughfares in Osogbo and Ilesa. They were reportedly upset by the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to remove Senator Ademola Adeleke from her position as governor.
In addition to blocking traffic on the Osogbo/Ikirun route, the demonstrators also obstructed traffic on the Gbongan/Osogbo road and physically assaulted numerous commercial motorcycle operators in the area.
While many commuters were stranded and forced to travel great distances to get where they needed to go, many businesses remained closed to customers out of concern that they might be attacked by the hoodlums.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kehinde Longe, was traveling in a convoy when several individuals who were allegedly TMC members halted it at Igbona Area.
An eyewitness who saw the incident claimed that after the barricade was dismantled, members of the CP convoy proceeded on.
The well-known Roundabout at Ilesa was closed to traffic, requiring commuters to take detours to get to their respective destinations.
Osun Police Command spokeswoman Yemisi Opalola responded when called for comment by saying, “More men have been dispatched to the designated places where roads were blocked to traffic. The circumstance is in check.
