Two commanders of the deadly Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP), also known as their Khaids (Sarki and Abu Huzaifa), were murdered by the Nigerian troops of “Operation Hadin Kai.”
The ongoing clearance effort in Sambisa Forest has also resulted in the death of numerous ISWAP terrorists, according to reputable sources.
The 199 Special Forces and the 222 Battalion participated in the intelligence-driven operation on May 6, 2023, in the Yuwe axis of the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. They worked with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), and Operation Lake Sanity II.
Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security expert in the Lake Chad region, learned from intelligence sources that the army attacked the Boko Haram rebels following a violent firefight; they neutralized some terrorists while others retreated.
He claimed that during the assault, the forces also killed Sarki and Abu Huzaifa, two of their Khaid.
“We killed many of them and lost one of our Civilian Joint Task Force member. We recovered ammunition, a motorcycle, 8 bicycles and several logistics items belonging to Sarki in the encounter.
“Sarki has coordinated several attacks in Bita, Mubi, Adamawa and Madagali for the terrorist group. There are other Khaids like Abou Huzaifa, Abou Ubaida and Abba Tukur, who were on the run”. Said the source.
