Bovi Ugboma, a well-known comedian, recalled the events that led to his being “labeled” at the American embassy the previous year and said, “I was humiliated when the story was blown out of proportion.”
Remember when the comedian-turned-actor was prohibited from entering the United States at some point last year after he got into a fight with a visa official?
In response to inquiries from his followers on Instagram, the comedian made this disclosure.
Bovi claimed he was denied entry to the US following a fight with a visa official that resulted in him being branded, despite a fan’s request for him to travel there and play in Massachusetts.
The Delta State-born comedian, who was a guest on this week’s episode of #withChude, clarified the situation by claiming that it had been exaggerated.
He avoided going into explicit detail about what happened between him and the officer providing the visa, though.
He acknowledged that the visa officer at the American embassy was not at all cordial.
“Like the way everything went; it escalated in the media. They started to have different versions of the story; ‘oh Bovi got in a scuffle with a visa issuing officer; Bovi is banned from entering the United States’,” he said.
Bovi went on to say that he felt really ashamed when the tale began to be embellished.
He pondered how someone could approach a visa officer given that they are enclosed behind a glass wall.
His words were, “If I remember correctly, all I did was ask him, ‘do you see how many visas I have gotten in the last 10 years? You know because in the last 10 years, I’ve always had two American visas, one for work, one for holiday, at the same time’.
“And his response was ‘there is a new sheriff in town’ and pushed my passport and my wife’s back, leaned back and picked his jug,” Bovi narrated.
The comedian also talked about the complicated relationship he had with his father, while growing up.
He said with a note of finality that “I don’t want to raise my kids the way I grew up under my old man, so I am trying to be different.”
