“Nigeria will be safe in stingy man’s hands,” Obi responded to Tinubu.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, responded to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressive Congress, by claiming that a stingy person would be better for the nation.

Speaking at a gathering in Akure, Obi acknowledged that he is frugal yet responsible with public finances.

Obi claimed that the country will be safer in his hands because, despite being stingy, he will be able to invest in the country’s development in other areas such as education, health, and the economy.

His words were: “Yes they said l am stingy, but we are not out to steal the nation’s wealth but all we want to do is to use the nation’s money for our people and development of this country

“They said that I’m stingy, we want stingy people now, so that we can keep the money. We want to make sure we use your money to transform the country.

“This election that is coming now, don’t vote for anybody because of tribe but vote for someone that will move the country forward.

“This election is about character and people we can trust. Everybody knows the schools my running mate and I attended. You all know our age, our schools and everything about us. Our background are known.

“When I was the governor in Anambra, everybody knows what I did, all the works I did. When I left government, I left $150m, everybody knows this, they know where I live, you can go and verify.

With the LP in charge, he claimed, the nation would be more safe since “the entire Nigeria is insecure, people are living in agony and starvation.” Nigeria needs to be stabilized and unified. Nigeria needs to transition from consumption to production.

“No more schools strikes. We will support small businesses. No Nigerians will leave his or her community because of insecurity. We guarantee you that insecurity will stop. We want to fight corruption. We will make sure that we have electricity”

“The presidency is not a birthright of any of the ethnic groups in the country but said a credible, prudent and responsible leaders should be voted to power in 2023.

“We don’t want anybody to say that it is my turn, we want to change Nigeria for better. Our children will be in school, we don’t want people to run out of Nigeria again. We want to structure Nigeria for development. We want to build a better Nigeria, so go out and support us.

“So go and pick your PVCs and vote for Labour Party and make sure that they count the vote. I’m the only Governor that left good money in office as far as the history of Anambra State is concerned.

“We will make sure that our security men work in a conducive environment and their families will be okay so that they can protect the citizens very well.

“We’ll instal structures that will work in Nigerian.

“I will stand surety for Nnamdi Kanu ” – Soludo

Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, has urged the federal government to free Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), stating he is willing to serve as surety for him.

After being returned to Nigeria from Kenya in 2021, Kanu has been held in the Department of State Service’s (DSS) custody on suspicion of a felony treason charge.

At the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) general election campaign launch in Awka’s Alex Ekwueme Square, Soludo called for the IPOB leader’s immediate and unconditional release.

His words were: “I am making a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally. If he cannot be released unconditionally, I want him bereleased to me and I will stand surety for him”

“We need Nnamdi Kanu in the roundtable conversation to discuss the insecurity in the South East. We must end insecurity in the South East and we need Nnamdi Kanu to be around.”

In exchange for being given Kanu, Soludo agreed to take care of him and to bring him to the authorities whenever necessary.

Kanu was initially charged on December 23, 2015, and on April 25, 2017, he was released on bail.

In September 2017, he left the country when the military broke into his rural home in Afara-Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia State.

He was taken back to Nigeria after being re-arrested in Kenya, where he is currently being tried.

Nigerian Mother Jailed In UK For Stealing £20,000

A Nigerian woman, Abiola Akinremi, who is a care home worker has been jailed for seven months in the United Kingdom for stealing almost £20,000 from the savings of vulnerable residents.

Akinremi, 41, was said to have abused her position as an administrator at the facility in Bostall House in Abbey Wood,  Old Bailey, in South East London, and made dozens of unauthorized withdrawals from the bank account of patients.

The Old Bailey is a facility that houses mental health residents under the Mental Health Act, and those without family support hand over control of their finances to administrators and carers.

The presiding judge, Angela Rafferty KC was quoted by Yahoo News as saying, “This was a repeated and planned course of conduct, and a very serious breach of trust of vulnerable people,” while addressing Akinremi in court before sentencing her to seven months in prison.

While Prosecutor Robert Levack said, “People who live at the home are all vulnerable, they have various conditions and are detained under the Mental Health Act or other legislation. It is a 24-hour care facility.

“They are not allowed to leave Bostall House without a member of staff or a family member. Some have their financial affairs looked after by the home.”

Investigations into Akinremi’s fraudulent activities dated back to November 2018, when £43,000 was missing from residents’ bank accounts, including £32,000 from one victim.

Akinremi had denied the allegations until the first day of her trial, insisting that other staff at the home were trying to “pin the blame” on her.

She however admitted taking £19,650 over the course of eight months from three residents, adding that others at the home were also involved in wrongdoing.

Akinremi then pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud by abuse of position, while Judge Rafferty rejected a plea for a suspended prison sentence, concluding only an immediate spell behind bars would be appropriate.

Japa’: ‘We Have Been There, Those Running Abroad Are Suffering’ – Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has claimed that Nigerians fleeing abroad “are suffering.”

“Japa” is a Yoruba word meaning “to run, flee, or escape.” It has now become a trend sweeping the nation, and though it is officially called emigration, every Nigerian refers to it as the Japa syndrome.

Tinubu said Nigerians who ran overseas for greener pastures ended up facing hardships, noting that “we have been there,” apparently referring to his years of sojourn abroad before returning to Nigeria.

He stated these while speaking at the APC campaign rally in Enugu on Wednesday.

The former Lagos governor said, “Those running overseas are suffering. We have been there. Anybody who tells you that you cannot do something, pray you can do it.”

According to Tinubu, Nigeria is blessed that its citizens should not seek greener pastures abroad.

Tinubu said there was no country like Nigeria in Africa, adding that he should be supported to renew and rebuild the country.
The APC presidential candidate said Lagos as a state is better than many countries in the Western world.

He stressed that if the Igbos collaborated with his expected government, he would make the geopolitical zone a manufacturing hub.

Speaking particularly about Enugu, Tinubu said he would make Enugu become an industrial hub greater than what it is today.

Tinubu described his campaign organization as a moving train prepared to win the election, saying that any attempt to stand before the moving train would end in a fiasco.

“You cannot block the way to success. Only the ignorant will stand in the way of victory,” Tinubu explained.

He added, “We are not looking for 25 percent votes. We are working assiduously until Bola Ahmed Tinubu becomes the president of Nigeria.”

APC criticize Sen. Kaita over N1.1bn allegation against Katsina govt

Sen. Ahmed Babba-Kaita (PDP-Katsina North) has come under fire from the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Katsina State for claiming that the state government intends to utilize N1.1 billion in public funds to support the party.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Kaita was elected in 2019 on the APC platform; however, he recently switched parties to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

At a recent campaign event in Daura Local Government, Kaita claimed that the state government intended to utilize more than N1.1 billion in taxpayer money to support the APC candidates.

Alhaji Bala Musawa, the state’s vice chairman of the APC, responded to the claims on Friday in Katsina by saying: “It was unexpected to hear such from the Senator.

“Himself and the PDP governorship candidate, Sen. Yakubu Lado, had tasted government and they know what is possible.

“If it was someone else that made such an allegation, I won’t be surprised. Sen. Kaita was from our party. He became a member of the House of Representatives and later became a Senator.

“I was among those that facilitated for him to secure the APC senatorial ticket. We spent about three days in Daura to ensure his success under this government.

“During the primary election, how much did he come with when he was contesting that all these allegations can come from him?. It’s surprising. I never thought he could make such an allegation.

“Whenever these issues are being discussed, as an APC member, we are expecting it was a mistake he made to leave the party, we are hoping he’s coming back. I think he still has the opportunity to reconcile.”

While asserting that Gov. Aminu Masari had made significant contributions to Kaita’s development, Musawa added: “But, as a human being, he can make mistakes.

“If we are to start exposing things, I can remind him when he joined the party, how he contested, how he secured the ticket and which money was used for his election.”

“As a senator, he is expected to be talking in a mature way because he represents 12 local governments,” Musawa said, pleading with Katia to respect his authority.

Supreme court dethrones an Obong for the first time in the throne’s history.

After years of legal wrangling, the Supreme Court deposed the Obong of Calabar, Édidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V, on Friday.

The court confirmed the decision of the Appeal Court, Calabar, and ordered a new election in the ruling prepared by Justice Amina Augie and read by Justice Akomaye Agim.

The removed Obong, who will be stepping down for the fourth time for a selection process, is still eligible to run for office.

That Etubom Anthony Ani and others sued Etubom Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu and others in their capacities as members of the Etuborns’ Traditional Council for abandoning the screening process of the Western Calabar under the then Chairman, Etubom Abasi-Otu, now the Obong of Calabar, that had screened and selected Etubom Ani as their single candidate. This lawsuit was filed by his lead counsel, Mr. Joe Agi(SAN).

Etubom Abasi Otu was declared the Obong-elect by the Etuboms’ Conclave before Etubom Ani filed the lawsuit, not after he had been formally installed as the Obong of Calabar.

On January 30, 2012, Justice Obojor A. Ogar of the High Court of Cross River state dismissed Abasi Otu as the Obong of Calabar in favor of Etubom Anthony Ani and overturned the decision of the Appeal Court that had sided with the ousted Obong.

But when the Obong and others appealed the High Court ruling to the Appeal Court in Calabar, the court once more dismissed them and ordered a new election.

On June 4, 2013, Justice Garba Lawal, the Lead Judge at the time and currently a Justice of the Supreme Court, issued the following ruling:

“That the 1st appellant, Abasi Otu, was traditionally qualified and eligible to vote and be voted for as the Obong of Calabar under Exhibit 1/20 at the time of the selection process.”

The Etuboms’ Conclave of the Palace of the Obong of Calabar, which had the authority to do so under Article 5(a)(ii)(iv) of Exhibit 1/20, ordered Etubom Abasi Otu to be proclaimed as Obong on March 31. The Appeal Court, however, reversed these decisions.

In accordance with the terms of Exhibit 1/20 and strictly in accordance with the principles of natural justice, the court directed it to “carry another process of selecting a new Obong of Calabar.”

According to the judgment’s summary, which was made accessible to news reporters in Calabar the moment it was given on January 13, 2023, new elections will be held in compliance with the Palace’s 2002 constitution, in accordance with equity and real justice.

Some of the Etuboms who had convened for an emergency meeting at the Obong’s private mansion in Adiabo sung a song proclaiming that “until tomorrow Edidem Ekpo Okon will still win them until tomorrow.”
