I Can Only Quit My Marriage If My Partner Sleeps With Another Man – Yeni Kuti

Yeni Kuti, the singer, and dancer has said infidelity in marriage is not a “deal breaker” for her.

Speaking on Your View, a programme on Television Continental, Yeni said she can only leave her marriage “if I find out that my partner is sleeping with another man.”

Recounting her mother’s experience while married to Fela Kuti, the late Afrobeat icon, Yeni said her mum was not happy in the union yet she didn’t leave him.

She added that she would rather leave her marriage than cheat on her husband.“For me, cheating is not a deal breaker and I always say it here. My father had 27 wives, my mother didn’t go.

“I’m not saying she was happy but she didn’t leave. It is not that my man will cheat and I will say I am going to cheat on my own. If it comes to that, let me be going.

“So it’s very difficult for me. Everybody has their own deal breaker.

“My own deal breaker is if I find out that my own partner is sleeping with another man. That’s my deal breaker. They won’t even beg me. I will run. It is cheating but cheating gets cheating.

“If you are cheating with a woman I can… But if you are cheating with a man, that one na deal breaker,” Yeni Kuti.
Yeni is in a relationship with Theo Lawson.

In 2017, the TV host said she would not endure what her mother went through with Fela.

Osun: ‘He Can’t Go, Lo, Lo, Lo, And Buga Won,’ How Tribunal Borrowed Kizz Daniel’s ‘Buga’ Lyrics To Sack Adeleke As Governor: He Has 21 Days To Appeal – Lawyer

More details have emerged on the Tribunal judgment sacking Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Governor of Osun State.

In a majority judgment, the tribunal, chaired by Justice Tertse Kume, canceled elections in 744 polling units citing over-voting.

The Justice, while reading out the judgment, borrowed a line from popular Nigerian music sensation, Kizz Daniel’s monster hit, ‘Buga’ to further pass home the message.

Former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola challenged the July 16, 2022 governorship polls by joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) to file a petition against the victory of Adeleke.

He alleged over-voting in 749 polling units and certificate forgery by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Oyetola and the APC, who dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the first respondent, Adeleke, as the second respondent, and the PDP as the third, called two witnesses.

Reading the majority judgment by Rabi Bashir and Tertse Kume, Justice Kume said: “In other words, the defences of the respondents are taint with fundamental flaws, irreconcilable and unreliable, incapable of defeating the credible evidence tendered by the petitioners in respect of the 744 polling units where over-voting has been established.

“The inference we hereby draw from the fact established by the evidence and record is that the election conducted on the 16th day of July 2022 was done in substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and extant regulations.

“Moreover, exhibit BVR has not been withdrawn by the first respondent who made and issued it. The petitioners relied on exhibit BVR in maintaining this petition.

“Similarly, the exhibit tendered by the respondents after exhibit BVR submitted by learned counsel to the petitioners was thought of after the declaration of the result on the 17th day of July 2022.

“The said conduct of the respondents, especially, the first respondent amounts to tampering with official records. The conduct of the first respondent in the said election under consideration has produced multiple accusation reports, contrary to the declaration of the votes, to conduct free, fair, and credible elections on the basis of one man or woman with one vote.

“Consequently, to forestall manipulation of BVAS machines in the conduct of elections in Nigeria by the first respondent, the presiding officers at the polling units and other key officers of the first respondent should act on the vest won by them.

“During the conduct of elections, an electronic device embedded in a safety vest which would have helped you to collect data and information transmittable to a server domiciled either to the headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force, NIGCOMSAT, the National Security Adviser, independent of the first respondent.

“The data stored at the server in any of the said offices will be a resource material for investigation and possible prosecution of any infraction that may occur in the use of the BVAS in the polling units during the conduct of elections.

“We find as a fact that the voting occurred in the election conducted on the 16th day of July 2022 in the manner stated in the table in paragraph 6.19 of the petitioner’s final written address already reproduced in this judgment, the duty of this tribunal is to deduct the said invalid votes from the lawful votes of the first petitioner and the first respondent to determine who have the majority of lawful votes at the said election.

“The table produced on page 30 paragraph 7.01 of the petitioner’s final written address in response to the first respondent’s final written address on page 17 paragraph 6.21 on the petitioner’s final address shows a graphic demonstration of the lawful votes after the deduction of the said invalid votes cast.

“For the sake of emphasis, the total lawful vote cast for each of the candidates after the said deduction of invalid votes is 314,931 for the first petitioner and 290,266 votes for the second respondent.

“The second respondent did not score a majority of lawful votes cast for the election. The declaration and return is hereby declared as null and void, the second respondent cannot ‘go lo, lo and buga won’ as duly elected governor of Osun State in the election conducted on July 16th, 2022, see Kiss Daniel song, Buga.

“Rather, we hereby hold that the first petitioner scored the majority of lawful votes in the said election and is hereby returned as such.

“The first respondent is hereby directed to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the second respondent and give the first petitioner Certificate of Return as the duly elected Governor.”

Adeleke has 21 days to appeal judgment – Lawyer
Meanwhile, a lawyer, Festus Ogun, on Friday disclosed that the Osun Governor would remain in office pending an appeal of the Tribunal judgment that upturned his election as governor on Friday.

Ogun disclosed this in a tweet posted to his Twitter page Friday evening.

He wrote, “Notwithstanding the decision of the Tribunal, S. 138 of the Electoral Act, 2022 provides that Adeleke shall remain in office for the period of 21 days within which he’s entitled to file an appeal against the judgment of the Tribunal.”

He added, “If he chooses not to appeal, then he’s mandated to leave office after 21 days. However, where he files an appeal against the decision, he shall remain in office pending the determination of the appeal and shall enjoy all the benefits that accrue to the office.”

Woman Sent To Jail For Causing Traffic While Having S3x In Her Car

A Makadara law court has fined a woman Ksh20,000 in default to six months jail term for causing traffic while engaging in sexual intercourse with her boyfriend in her car.

The motorist, whose name has been withheld, was handed the sentence after she pleaded guilty to the charges of causing a disturbance and obstructing traffic at Thika Road Mall in Roysambu on January 24, 2023.

This came after the court was informed that she was arrested by traffic officers from Kasarani Police Station who were manning the road near the Thika Road Mall.

At the time of her arrest, she was found in a compromising situation with a man in the car which was stopped in the middle of the road.

It remains unclear why the two opted to have s3x along a busy road.

The prosecution told the court that the officers politely interrupted the session and asked the two lovebirds to move to the driveway but they were faced with hostility.

The prosecutor said; “Enraged by the police request to drive away, the accused person began hurling insults at the officers who were armed and even reportedly dared them to open fire.”
Officers immediately lodged a report of the drama that unfolded to their boss at Kasarani Police Station.

He then sent reinforcement who overpowered the two lovers who were arrested.

The lady who admitted that the facts of the case were correct during her trial, urged the court to forgive her saying she is remorseful and will never repeat the acts again.

The magistrate fined her Ksh10,000 for each offense or an alternative of six months imprisonment. She has 14 days to appeal.

Osun state Tribunal: Highways closed by protesters, CP convoy blocked

On Saturday, protesters blocked some of the main thoroughfares in Osogbo and Ilesa. They were reportedly upset by the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision to remove Senator Ademola Adeleke from her position as governor.

In addition to blocking traffic on the Osogbo/Ikirun route, the demonstrators also obstructed traffic on the Gbongan/Osogbo road and physically assaulted numerous commercial motorcycle operators in the area.

While many commuters were stranded and forced to travel great distances to get where they needed to go, many businesses remained closed to customers out of concern that they might be attacked by the hoodlums.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kehinde Longe, was traveling in a convoy when several individuals who were allegedly TMC members halted it at Igbona Area.

An eyewitness who saw the incident claimed that after the barricade was dismantled, members of the CP convoy proceeded on.

The well-known Roundabout at Ilesa was closed to traffic, requiring commuters to take detours to get to their respective destinations.

Osun Police Command spokeswoman Yemisi Opalola responded when called for comment by saying, “More men have been dispatched to the designated places where roads were blocked to traffic. The circumstance is in check.

I was blocked from meeting the President for 4 years – Samuel Ortom

Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, claimed he had not seen President Muhammadu Buhari in four years because he had been denied access.

When asked if, during an election year, there wasn’t too much conflict between the Federal Government and the presidential candidate of his (Ortom) party, he responded that there was no cause for alarm or concern.

“There is nothing like having fear about winning election or not winning election. It does not really come in.

“I am doing the wish of my people, whatever you hear me speak and I have challenged them, I have consulted with them and I told them, ‘if I am not doing your wish, draw my attention, I will go back’.

“This matter (security) that I have been branded a bad man by the presidency, if my people tell me that ‘Ortom this is too much please withdraw’, I will go back and apologise to the President.

“I have not seen the President for four years, they have blocked me and I said fine, let me stay and do my work because I was not elected by presidency.

“I have been denied a lot of things that would have come to Benue state, nothing comes here.

“Those people who are against me and are working for APC, it is their shame because I expected that they didn’t want me to have any access to the President.

“Now that they have him alone, what have they attracted to Benue state? Nothing.

“When they are making appointments, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau and others, nothing comes to Benue.

“But these are people from Benue here, who are living on crumbs and who have not performed and who have nothing to show when they were given power by the same Benue people they have not been able to impact on their lives.

“I challenge anyone to come out in all sectors of the economy in the state. I have projects that I have executed despite all the problems that I have.

“I sit among my colleagues who ask me, ‘My brother, are you not afraid of your life?’

“I said look, life belongs to God, the day God wants me to die, nobody will stop it. I cannot stop myself and it is only a fool that dies 20 times before his actual death.

“Otherwise a wise man should die once, when that time comes you cannot stop it and it happens.

“So as far as I am concerned, I am not worried about the election. Look, being a senator for instance is not the issue but service. First things first.

“The day I will stand before the judgment seat of God, God will ask me, ‘What did you do when you were local government chairman? What did you do when you were secretary of PDP? What did you do when you were deputy chairman? What did you when you were national auditor? What did you do when you were minister? What did you do when you were governor?’

“And for me as a student of the Bible, the Bible teaches me to make use of the little I have because it depends on what you do with the little that have been committed into your hands. If you do well, you can be given more.”

Five black US police officers charged with beating fellow black man to death

Authorities in the United States on Thursday charged five former police officers with murder over the fatal beating of a Black man in Memphis, as the southern city braced for possible civil unrest and President Joe Biden urged demonstrators to protest peacefully.

According to CNN, Tyre Nichols, 29, was pulled over on January 7 for what the Memphis Police Department described as dangerous driving.

Following a chase, “police brutalized him to the point of being unrecognizable,” according to a statement from family lawyers Ben Crump and Antonio Romanucci.

The five officers—all of whom are Black—were fired after an internal inquiry revealed that they had used excessive force and had neglected to provide aid, according to the police.

According to the police, Nichols was rushed to the hospital in severe condition, where he passed away on January 10.

Police video of the arrest, according to officials, will be made public after 6:00 pm Central time on Friday (0000 GMT Saturday).

The police assassination of Nichols immediately brought to mind the suffocation of another Black man, George Floyd, by a white police officer in Minneapolis in May 2020.

The swiftly disseminated video of Floyd’s death sparked a nationwide surge of often violent protests that raised questions about racial inequality and police violence in the US.

The officers in Memphis are also accused of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping in addition to second-degree murder.

“After everyone sees the video, I don’t think they’ll have any questions about those charges,” District Attorney Steve Mulroy told CNN.

The second-largest city in Tennessee, Memphis, with a 65 percent African-American population.

Following their viewing of the video, the family lawyers claimed to have witnessed “the horrific way in which he lost his life at the hands of Memphis police.”

“The news today from Memphis officials that these five officers are being held criminally accountable for their deadly and brutal actions gives us hope as we continue to push for justice for Tyre,” the lawyers added.

Biden issued a calm call on Thursday, anticipating anger following the release of the footage.

The president issued a statement in which he joined Tyre’s family in calling for peaceful protest, adding that “Americans are grieving, the Department of Justice is conducting its investigation, and state authorities are doing their work.”

Nichols’ beating “shows to the need, need for change and reform to guarantee that this violence stops occurring during low-threat procedures, like in this case, a traffic check,” the family’s attorneys continued.

Despite attorneys for two of the five officers claiming their clients intended to post bail, all five of the cops charged with Nichols’s murder have been brought into custody.

Former officer Desmond Mills Jr.’s attorney Blake Ballin stated that his client and his family were experiencing “a lot of anxiety and sorrow, not only for his personal circumstances but for what this sort of accusation, this kind of occurrence is doing to our city.”

The lawyer said that he had not yet watched the incident’s video.

At a news conference on Thursday, the director of the Tennessee Bureau of Inquiry, David Rausch, expressed his disgust at what he had witnessed and what the investigation had shown.

The victim’s family was inconsolable, according to district attorney Mulroy: “They described an almost ideal son, a cheery and pleasant person who adored skating and sunsets over Shelby Farms Park.”

Derrick Johnson, head of the NAACP, a civil rights organization, said: “We can identify all the victims of police violence, but we can’t name a single statute you have passed to address it.”

Court Dismisses Umo Eno as PDP Guber Candidate for Akwa Ibom

The primary election that produced Umo Eno as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for governor in Akwa Ibom State has been declared invalid by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to a ruling issued on January 20 by Justice Fadima Aminu, the PDP must nominate Michael Enyong as their candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Enyong claimed he had won the party’s primary elections held on May 25, 2022, in the lawsuit with the filing date of August and the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1295/2022.

He had pointed the court to an order made on May 18 by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in the case FHC/ABJ/CS/606/2022, which prohibited the PDP from using its list of ad hoc delegates to hold its gubernatorial primary election in Akwa Ibom while the substantive suit was still being decided.

Enyong claimed that he won the indirect primary election with 2,448 of the 2,776 total recognized votes, making him the victor.

However, he claimed that the party’s refusal to nominate him as the governorship candidate prompted his decision to seek legal action.

Even though there is evidence that the second defendant (PDP) was served with the initial summons and other processes, and despite INEC’s continued impartial attitude in the case, PDP never appeared.

The judge who rendered the verdict stated that Enyong had presented strong evidence that was sufficient to establish his case beyond a reasonable doubt.

According to Justice Aminu, the plaintiff is therefore proclaimed the legitimately nominated PDP candidate for governor after winning the primary election held in Akwa Ibom state for the upcoming 2023 general elections held on May 25th, 2022.

The judgment ordered that any additional governorship primary elections occurring after the legally lawful election of May 25, 2022, are invalid and, along with their results, are hereby declared null and void.

Justice Aminu further mandated that the PDP submit Enyong’s name and other pertinent information to INEC as its legitimate candidate.

The judgment further said that INEC must recognize Enyong, give him a nomination form, or announce his name as the PDP’s candidate for governor of Akwa Ibom state in the upcoming general elections in 2023.

Former Governor Adeleke Writes Letter to INEC and Makes New Request

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not provide Gboyega Oyetola a Certificate of Return.

Recall that the Osun Governor was fired on Friday following the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling.

A three-person panel, presided over by Justice Tertse Kume, issued the decision.

Adegboyega Oyetola was directed to receive the Certificate of Return that had been given to Adeleke by the majority decision of two judges against one.

Oyetola received the majority of the legitimate votes—314, 921—as opposed to Adeleke’s 290, 266 in the majority judgment, which was read by the chairman, Justice Tertse Kume.

However, Adeleke pleaded with INEC in a letter to the chairman of the electoral umpire, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to hold off on issuing Oyetola’s certificate of return until the outcome of his appeal.

The letter partly signed by Hashim Abioye, lawyer to Adeleke, read: “As Solicitors to the 2nd Respondent, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, we humbly write to notify you that consequent upon the dissatisfaction of the 2nd Respondent by the najority decision of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered on January 27, 2023, the 2nd Respondent has applied for a certified true copy of the judgement to enable him pursue his appeal against the said judgement.

“In the light of the foregoing, we humbly ask you to apply the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, by not issuing any certificate (of) return to the 1st petitioner in the petition pending the outcome of the appeal which we are confident will be favourable to our client.”

Army Probes Torture Of Female Soldier By Colleagues

A yet-to-be-identified female soldier has been brutalized by her senior colleagues at the Nigerian Army Women Corps in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

It was observed in a trending video shared by an online news platform, SaharaReporters, as one of the soldiers used a stick to flog the victim, who was pinned to the ground by another soldier.

In the video, our correspondent also noted that the soldier who pinned the junior colleague to the ground used a cloth to cover her face.

However, in a bid to defend herself, the female soldier, despite being pinned to the ground, used her hands to pack granite on the floor, which she threw in different directions to stop the attack.

No fewer than four other military personnel were seen in the video observing as the assault on the female soldier was being perpetrated by the soldiers who accused the victim of slapping an officer.

Another video clip attached to the post showed the victim sitting on the ground as broken parts of the stick used in beating her were seen on the floor.

The lady, while writhing in pain, showed the injuries she sustained.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army Women Corps, H.S. Abdullah, said an investigation into the case was ongoing.

He said, “We saw it as well but the authorities are working on it by investigating to know what happened. The department of military police is working on the case.

“If you have been following our records over the years, anything that happens like that in the military is followed by investigation, and other procedures also follow, which this case is not an exception.”

COVID-19 Vaccine Partnership Boosts Sierra Leone’s Vaccination Efforts With $2.8 Million

The COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership, (CoVDP), yesterday handed over vehicles including motorbikes and computers worth over $2.8 million to support the Government of Sierra Leone’s COVID-19 vaccine deployment.

CoVDP is a joint venture of the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative (Gavi), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The items were officially handed over to Dr. Austin Demby, Minister of Health and Sanitation in Freetown, including two pick-up vehicles, 250 motorbikes, six computers and accessories, and 300 tablets with power banks.

In addition, 15 Peripheral Health Units (PHUs), and four District Vaccine Stores, will be connected to solar-powered systems.

These supplies are part of the technical and operational support that the country is receiving to help scale up COVID-19 vaccination and strengthen routine immunization services across Sierra Leone.

“It is heart-warming to receive these items from the COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership, (CoVDP). Since COVID-19 Vaccination is a vital lifesaving tool in the fight against COVID-19, this move is a step in the right direction. As Sierra Leone has achieved over 70% of fully vaccinated individuals for COVID-19 vaccination, this donation will boost the country’s determination in making more gains in the integrated vaccination approach,” said Dr. Austin Demby, Minister of Health and Sanitation.

Since March 2021, when Sierra Leone first introduced COVID-19 vaccination, the partners have helped ensure the delivery of up to 7,881,848 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the country through COVAX and other sources. Since the initial rollout, vaccination of eligible members of the population has significantly improved.

This latest support from the COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership will ensure that the country’s COVID-19 vaccination programme continues this positive trajectory, continuing to reach high-risk population groups with boosters and remaining alert to the continued global threat of COVID-19.

“Gavi is proud to work with our partners in continued support of Sierra Leone’s COVID-19 vaccination rollout,” said Dr Richard Mihigo, Director of COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery, Coordination and Integration at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

“These additional resources are vital investments that will further strengthen the health system as a whole, supporting the integration of COVID-19 vaccines into routine immunization programs, and ensuring more children are protected against various vaccine-preventable diseases.”

These vehicles and equipment have come at a time when partners in Sierra Leone continue to support the Government’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare delivery system and improve child healthcare services including immunization, which faced a temporary snag due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone, we will intensify efforts on the deployment of vaccines, strengthening of the cold chain system, community sensitization, and engagement for increased uptake of immunization services”, said Dr. Suleiman Braimoh, UNICEF Representative in Sierra Leone.

“This will help ensure that the COVID-19 vaccination is integrated into routine immunization services in 2023 and beyond to protect children from vaccine-preventable illnesses such as polio and measles.”

Dr. Innocent Nuwagira, WHO Representative in Sierra Leone said: “The protracted nature of the COVID-19 pandemic calls for continued collaboration and partnership to support the ongoing efforts and progress that Sierra Leone has made in the fight against the disease.

“While we recognize the progress, WHO encourages everyone to remain vigilant, maintain the structures that were instituted to curb the pandemic, get more people vaccinated and continue to administer booster doses in accordance with national guidelines to safeguard the gains that we have collectively made”.

In addition to the items donated yesterday, another consignment including two vehicles, one refrigerated van, and 150 solar refrigerators, is expected to arrive in Sierra Leone by March 2023 for handover to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
