Nigerian students in Sudan flee for safety out of fear due to ongoing fighting

In the Republic of Sudan, where a brutal military conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary group, Rapid Support Force, has killed 330 lives and injured 3,200, Nigerian students are abandoning their homes for safety.

As the violence that started on April 8 entered its 13th day on Friday, thousands of civilians had also been forced to flee the capital, Khartoum, as a result of the clashes. These countries included Tanzania, Uganda, and Japan.

The RSF paramilitary group and the Sudanese Armed Forces, both commanded by General Mohamed Dagalo, were previously partners.

1,262 or more Nigerian students have requested that the Federal Government relocate them from Sudan.

The Federal Government announced on Thursday that it has applied for permission to evacuate Nigerians caught in the violent conflict, particularly students.

It reaffirmed the need for a cease-fire so that foreign nationals may be evacuated.

On the other hand, Umar Abubakar, the president of the Jigawa State Students Association in Sudan, who resided in Mujahideen, sent our correspondent a voice message on Friday with the sound of gunfire in the background.

Abubakar said, “After prayer this morning, we are running for our lives. The situation is very serious. As you can hear the gunshots in the background, please pray for us.”

Divorce Saga: ‘I Needed Time To Digest This Shock,’ Achraf Hakimi’s Ex-Wife, Hiba Breaks Silence

Hiba Abouk, the ex-wife of Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, has broken her silence following her divorce from the Moroccan footballer.

Despite the rape charges against Hakimi, Abouk said she was calm about the situation, adding that she needed time to process the shock.

Hakimi was charged with rape in February, and Abouk later revealed that the couple was in the midst of a divorce as a result.

Speaking to ELLE, Abouk said, “I am fine. There are days when it is like this, and others in which you’ve to know how to take blows and make decisions, sometimes complicated, and get used to new situations.

“Who would’ve imagined that in addition to facing the usual pain that a separation entails and accepting the grief that the failure of a family project to which I had given myself body and soul entails, I would’ve to face this ignominy. I needed time to digest this shock.

“When you separate, you restructure your life, but it’s not anything special either: you’ve to take iron out of the matter. It’s true that, with two children, it is emotionally complicated, but I’m not the first and I will not be the last. The important thing is that I have the peace of mind of having tried and having done everything I had to do. There are decisions that cannot be made overnight. For me it’s a premise not to rush in moments of crisis.”

Meanwhile, there have been claims that the settlement could be tricky as Hakimi has registered a huge part of his wealth in his mother’s name.

Abouk and Hakimi have two children, Amín, 3, and Naim, 1, together.

The pair married in 2020, two years after meeting in 2018.
