Gov Oborevwori praises Delta Queens for winning the Women’s Football League championship.

The Delta Queens were praised by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for winning the Super Six Nigeria Women’s Football League championship.

Festus Ahon, the governor’s chief press secretary, issued a statement on Monday in Asaba that carried the governor’s praise.

On Sunday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba’s main bowl, the Delta Queens defeated Bayelsa Queens 2-1 to win the Super 6 competition.

The Delta State ladies have earned the right to represent Nigeria in the upcoming West African Football Union B Women’s CAF Champions League qualifications by winning the Super 6 event.

Oborevwori thanked the winning squad as he accepted the trophy from them on Sunday night.

He remarked that Delta was known for its love of sports and pushed the players to get ready for the continental competition well.

The governor characterized their outstanding success at the national tournament as a reflection of their outstanding regular-season performance, in which they took first place in group B with 26 points.

He credited the management, coaches, and players’ dedication, hard work, and focus for the team’s success.

He gave the squad his word that the State Government will continue to help them achieve additional victories for the state and the nation.

“I congratulate the organisers for putting up such a quality tournament, where our darling team, Delta Queens, emerged worthy champions.

“This victory is particularly sweet for me because we are winning it after 11 years. Therefore, on behalf of the Government and people of Delta, I congratulate our dear Delta Queens for making us proud again.

“As a state government, we will continue to do everything possible to support the team to win more laurels for the state and country as they represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League via a WAFU qualifying window in August,” he said.
