9th Assembly dissolved by the Benue governor.
The ninth assembly was dissolved by the governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, on Friday after the clerk of the house, Bernard Nule, issued and read the dissolution order.
During the House’s members’ farewell meeting, Nule read the House’s dissolution order.
According to the Clerk, the assembly was dissolved in accordance with the Benue State House of Assembly dissolution order and Section 105, subsection 3, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, as amended, which gives the governor the authority to dissolve the assembly to make room for new leadership.
Titus Uba, the former speaker of the 9th Assembly, congratulated his colleagues and the body and praised the performance of the House in processing 60 legislation, of which 54 were approved for enactment and six lapsed.
Uba said there were 53 motions made, out of which 121 resolutions were created to address state and welfare concerns for the public. She added that 66 reports were received and vigorously argued, with resolutions derived from them.
During the eulogies for the Ninth Assembly, which were delivered in turn by the members, former majority leader Hon. Damian Cheme praised the legislative branch for being the most productive and orderly in the nation and thanked the members for having the opportunity to serve the House.
Bem Mngutyo, the minority leader, responded by calling for the legislative branch of government to have financial autonomy, which will provide it the independence it needs to operate effectively without interference from the executive.
He praised the Speaker of the House for using his exceptional leadership abilities to bring the House’s members together and asked his fellow lawmakers to practice love, togetherness, and humility in their final days in office.
