Nollywood Yoruba actor Murphy Afolabi passes away after falling in the bathroom
Just 24 hours after the passing of Saint Obi, a well-known Nollywood actor, Murphy Afolabi, a well-known Yoruba actor and filmmaker, is said to have passed away.
The Yoruba movie actor was reported to have collapsed on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in the bathroom of his home in Ikorodu, Lagos.
On a WhatsApp forum used by filmmakers, a filmmaker and the president of the Yoruba movies directors guild, Seun Olaiya, shared the tragic news.
Abdullahi Abdulrasaq, the Managing Director of the well-known film marketing firm Corporate Pictures Nigeria Limited, backed him up.
Olaiya wrote, “I swear to God just before the news, I was still hailing him. This is really a rude shock to me.”
Showbiz personality and the convener of the Best of Nollywood Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, also confirmed the news to our correspondent. He said, “It is true. He passed away after taking a fall in his bathroom at his house in Ikorodu this morning.”
Rest in peace, the late actor, said with a photo of him on Facebook, uploaded by another filmmaker, Tunde Ola-Yusuf. God provide the family and close friends the strength to endure the loss. Until tomorrow, Murphy Afolabi.
Yet another filmmaker, Fidelis Duker, wrote, “What is really happening? I am just watching him in a movie now.”
However, some Yoruba actors could be observed making remarks and expressing sympathy to the departed’s family.
Afolabi, who was born on May 5th, 1974, entered the film industry in 2001.
Before his passing, the Iree Polytechnic, Osun State, graduate made appearances in more than 60 films.
He has appeared in the movies “Ifa Olokun,” “Omowunmi,” “Jimi Bendel,” “Wasila Coded,” “Olokiki Oru,” and “Idera.”
