South African police shoot nine in a gunfight to steal money.

Nine robbery suspects were shot and killed by South African police on Thursday during a failed cash theft.

According to the authorities, a police tactical reaction squad located the group at a residence in the suburb of Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg.

According to the BBC, the suspects were en route to attacking a vehicle carrying money when police say they launched the raid.

“A shootout ensued, a total of eight suspects were certified dead at the scene while the ninth suspect died in hospital,” Police spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe said.

According to the BBC, three further people were hurt and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The organization was thought to be responsible for an increase in cases of cash heists on armored security trucks in the Gauteng region of Johannesburg and its environs.

At the scene, six firearms, explosives “ready to be detonated,” four vehicles, and other items were recovered, according to Mathe.

In South Africa, which has a high crime rate, thieves frequently target automobiles carrying cash.

Two witnesses were fired at randomly earlier this week as they were caught up in a heist in Benoni, east of Johannesburg, and one of them was injured.
