Amotekun prevents a robbery attempt in Osun.
In the Akure-Ilesa Expressway, the South-West security agency Amotekun Corps stopped a carjacking attempt and recovered an oil-filled vehicle.
Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (ret. ), commander of the corps in Osun, told newsmen in Osogbo on Saturday that the robbers had attacked vehicles at the Ileki/Osu axis of the Ilesha-Akure Road for nearly an hour.
By 11:46 p.m, he claimed, a driver who managed to flee the bandits’ ambush alerted an Amotekun patrol squad, who then chased the criminals away.
Adewinmbi stated that when the robbers escaped, a truck that had been abandoned by its driver and was filled with fuel and gasoline was found and brought to the Amotekun office in Osogbo.
He claimed that the owner of the items was contacted and that the driver and his assistant, who had fled into the jungle, were located using the waybills that were discovered in the vehicle that was later retrieved.
According to him, the driver revealed that when they were ambushed, they were traveling from Lagos to Abuja via Lokoja.
In the presence of police officers from the Ayeso Police Station, Ilesha, which covers the area of the occurrence, Adewinmbi claimed the car, with the items intact, was handed to the driver on Saturday in Osogbo.
He added that the police applauded the Amotekun team for their actions and called for increased cooperation to combat the rise in highway robberies, particularly along the Owena-Ile-Ife Freeway in Osun.
Drivers should avoid nighttime commutes, especially those transporting pricey products or items, Adewinmbi advised.
He emphasized that they should be cautious of their route selection if they must go at night.
