INEC postponed start of the governorship and state assembly elections to March 18.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made an important pronouncement that is creating a stir in Nigeria’s political arena.

The eagerly anticipated governorship and state assembly elections slated for this Saturday have been postponed to March 18, 2023.

This decision was taken because INEC was unable to quickly adapt the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) voting equipment used in the February 25 presidential election so that they could be utilized in the state elections.

The decision by INEC to postpone the polls is a result of its dedication to following the law and maintaining a trustworthy electoral process.

According to a statement released by the commission, “The decision is in compliance with the legal requirement and to ensure that we conduct a free, fair and credible election.”

“It is a necessary step to ensure that all voters are given the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to choose their leaders without any impediment.

The public has been reassured by INEC that it is making every effort to ensure that the new election date is adequately announced and that all parties are kept informed.
