Sierra Leone First Lady Happy Over Repatriation Of Trafficked Women From Lebanon
The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Fatima Bio, has expressed joy with the arrival of the first batch of women returnees from Lebanon who were subjected to all forms of inhuman treatment in the name of serving as domestic staff.
Recall that a lot of women from particularly West and Central African countries have been trafficked to Lebanon and other Asian countries in the name of going there to work as domestic staff and thus earn living.
However, recent reports have given insights into the slavery the ladies are meant to go through, with a good number of them also serving as sex slaves.
The Sierra Leonean First Lady had promised that the country would do everything possible to ensure that her citizens currently trafficked to Lebanon would be repatriated back to the country, saying that was part of the reasons she her husband, President Julius Maada Bio, stayed long in the country, only returned to the country on Saturday
Taking to her tweeter handle to express joy at the arrival of the first batch of the ladies, she said:
“Today I am glad to announce the repatriation of the first group of young ladies from Lebanon who went there as domestic workers back to Sierra Leone.
“Part of our private visit to Lebanon was to make sure we bring back our girls and I am elated that we achieve our agenda,” she tweeted on Sunda
