COVID-19: Algerian Club Owners Vote To Terminate Football League
The ravaging Coronavirus pandemic might have taken its toll on Algerian football as the club owners in the country, late Tuesday, voted to end the 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season and all other lower divisions of the country’s football.
The Algerian FA held a vote for the clubs to determine the future of the 2019/2020 season.
About 90% of the clubs voted against the resumption of football, and will instead declare the league champion and promoted teams based on current standings.
No teams will get relegated, meaning that the 2020/2021 top-flight campaign will feature 20 teams for the first time since the 1986-1987 season.
The Algerian second-tier will now feature 36 teams, split into two groups of 18 (Eastern and Western) from next season.
CR Belouizdad was leading the league standings with 40 points from 21 matches.
