An Argentina supporter who was seen stripping off in a raucous celebration of her country’s triumph over France in the World Cup final is now facing jail time.
Cameras turned to celebrating Argentina supporters after Gonzalo Montiel’s penalty strike earned them the victory. Among them was a blonde supporter who provided the cameras a little more than they had anticipated.
Fans were informed in advance that they would have to obey Qatar’s strict, traditional norms.
‘Visitors both men and women are encouraged to demonstrate respect for local culture by avoiding extremely revealing clothes in public,’ the Qatar Tourism Authority stated.
‘It is generally recommended for men and women to ensure their shoulders and knees are covered.’
Women are not allowed to display any cleavage or wear any exposing apparel in the conservative country of Qatar.
Non-Qatari women are free from wearing the abaya, a long, black garment that nearly covers the entire body. However, visitors must make sure their tops cover their shoulders and midriff, and their skirts, dresses, and pants must cover their knees.
