Man City denounces the assault on the Liverpool team bus.

Following the match between the two Premier League rivals on Saturday, Manchester City denounced criminal damage to Liverpool’s team bus.

Greater Manchester Police said that they have launched an investigation into the incident that occurred following City’s 4-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

The bus from Liverpool was able to travel back to Merseyside without any injuries.

“Manchester City FC have been made aware that Liverpool FC’s coach sustained damage on its return journey,” City said in a statement.

“We understand an object was thrown towards the coach in a residential area.

“Incidents of this kind are totally unacceptable, and we strongly condemn the actions of the individual(s) responsible.”

City also expressed disappointment at the home crowd’s chants that alluded to the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy, which claimed the lives of 97 Liverpool supporters.

“The club is disappointed to have heard inappropriate chants from home fans during the game,” City added in a statement.

“We regret any offence these chants may have caused and will continue to work with supporter groups and officials from both clubs to eradicate hateful chanting from this fixture.”

Conflicts between City and Liverpool have intensified recently as a result of their ongoing competition for big awards.

Before the teams’ Champions League match in 2018, bottles were hurled at City’s bus as it approached Anfield.

A plastic cup loaded with money was hurled from the Liverpool crowd into the City end during a League Cup game at the Etihad in December, injuring a 15-year-old girl’s head.
