Again, Another Victim Dies From Asake London Concert Incident

Police in London on Monday said a second woman has died after being injured in a crush outside a concert by Nigerian Afrobeats singer Asake in the British capital.

The 23-year-old woman was working as one of the contracted security providers for the gig at the 02 Academy in Brixton, south London, on Thursday evening.

A third woman, aged 21, was in hospital in critical condition, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, in charge of the investigation, called the second death “devastating news” and sent his condolences to the woman’s family.

Scotland Yard detectives have been scouring security camera and mobile phone footage to establish what caused the crash and to see if any crime was committed.

But they said it had been established that all three women were in the foyer of the building when the incident occurred.
Cordons outside the venue have now been lifted but remain in place inside.

Police were called to the O2 Academy just after 9:00 pm (21:00 GMT) on Thursday after reports of a large crowd outside.

A further call was made about 30 minutes later reporting that people were attempting to get inside.

The force said it had referred the incident to the police watchdog, in line with the standard procedure when officers have attended and lives have been lost or people seriously injured.

After the first death was announced, Asake said he was “devastated” and “overwhelmed with grief”.

Thursday’s gig was the third of three sold-out performances at the venue. The concert was canceled midway through his performance.

Kylian Mbappe Speaks After World Cup Loss To Messi’s Argentina

Kylian Mbappe has given hope to millions of France supporters following the national team’s loss to Argentina in Sunday’s World Cup final in Qatar.

Argentina carried the day 4-2 on penalties after 3-3 draw in a dramatic 120 minutes of football that saw Mbappe score a hat-trick while Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi scored a brace for Argentina, with Angel Di Maria scoring the other goal for the South American champions.

Reacting in a tweet on Monday, Mbappe who was awarded the golden boot after outscoring everyone in the tournament with a total of 8 goals, wrote “we will return”.

Messi had opened the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half before Di Maria doubled the score for Argentina in the 36th minute following a spectacular counterattack.

France rallied back from a two-goal deficit with Mbappe pulling one back from the spot 10 minutes before full time and equalizing with a spectacular goal 60 seconds later.

The 90 minutes of regulation time ended with both teams tied at 2-2, taking the game to extra time.

The game seemed to have been decided by Messi in the 109th minute, but France found their way back again after the referee awarded a penalty to them when Argentina’s defender handled the ball in the box with Mbappe completing his hat-trick from the spot.

There was nothing to separate the teams after 120 minutes of football, leaving the game to be decided by a penalty shootout and it was Argentina who came out victorious after Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni missed their spot kicks for France.

Missing some key players like Paul Pogba, Ngolo Kante, Karim Benzema, and Presnel Kimpembe through injury, France was bidding to defend the title they won four years ago in Russia but Argentina thwarted that mission with their first title in 36 years.
