What I Do Before Every Performance- Davido

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke aka Davido has revealed that he engages in a prayer session before every live performance and why.
In a feature published by Forbes, the DMW Label Boss spoke about the magazine’s latest edition of Afrobeats All-Star: Pioneering The New Global Sound.

The Unavailable crooner informed the publication that his crew is well aware of his habit of entrusting his performances to God prior to hitting the stage.

Davido cited his billionaire father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke, as someone who taught him a lot about Christianity and living a modest life.

He stated that he gained significant insights from observing his father in the workplace, listening to him on the phone, and witnessing his approach to life. Davido said: “I learned so much from being around my dad, watching him in the office, hearing him on the phone, seeing how he handled life. He’s very humble, principled and a strong Christian. Before I step on any stage, my team knows not to mess with my prayers.”

Davido stated that his latest album ‘Timeless’ seemed like his last chance to deliver an acceptable album. Speaking as a guest on the recent episode of the +44 podcast, Davido said the 17-track album was either going to make or break him.

The ‘Assurance’ crooner said he was elated that fans finally accepted his album for the fourth time of asking.

Davido added that he asked everyone to leave one hour before his album was released, prayed, and then slept. When he woke up after over 3hours, he got scared because he didn’t see anyone celebrating his album.

Read below: “This is me telling myself the truth; this album was either going to make me or break me. People don’t want to say it to me in my face. But everybody knows the truth about the situation that is happening in their life whether they want to lie to them or not.

“There were situations when I was recording this album I was like ‘mehn! I’m going to go like this, I’m going to go like this?’

“So, when I slept and I woke up, my phone was not with me, so I was going crazy. I sent everybody away an hour before the album came out, I did my prayers, I laid down on my bed, and slept. I now overslept.

“I wanted to just sleep for like one hour thirty minutes so that we will celebrate. I now overslept. Woke up by 3 am. I said ‘Ye!’. I was looking for my phone because I have a big suite. I went to the living room, but there wasn’t anybody in my room celebrating. I was scared like ‘wettin dey happen na?’. “So, I ran downstairs and I banged my assistant’s door ‘What’s going on, what’s going on?’. He said ‘Oga, take your phone, congratulations’.”
