Basketball World Cup will be held in Qatar for the first time.
The 2027 men’s Basketball World Cup will be held in Qatar, furthering the country’s growing reputation for hosting big international sporting events.
The women’s competition will be held in Germany in 2026, according to basketball’s governing organization FIBA.
In November and December, Qatar hosted the men’s football World Cup, and it will now host the championship game of basketball for the first time.
All games will take place in the city of Doha’s established venues.
“We are very happy to be able to award the Basketball World Cup 2027 to Qatar,” said FIBA president Hamane Niang.
The 2023 men’s basketball World Cup draw will take place on Saturday in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
This year’s World Cup will be held in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan from August 25 to September 10.
The 32 teams who qualified did not include Qatar.
